Giving Thanks
It was birds of a different feather on the menu at Thanksgiving Day trip to watch the sunrise at the Isenberg Sandhill Crane Reserve.
The winter rains have finally reached the wetland along with chilly morning temperatures. I made the sunrise trip with family to watch the cranes early morning departure.
The number of cranes and other other waterfowl have decreased as we head deeper into the winter months. The birds that were there greeted the dawn with trumpeting before heading off to their morning foraging. After most of the cranes had departed a small group wandered out of the water close to the fence line, the closest I have seen any wander in my many years visiting the wetlands.
So with this trip I give my thanks for the many opportunities I have been given to see these amazing sights and thanks for those visits to the crane reserve still to come.
